It’s fun to see a tiny reflections of the self in movies, in characters. But it’s seriously amusing how none of these are regular people. Even if I try to fit in, I cannot see myself in normal, happy-go-lucky movie characters.
Instead, there’s always this imperfect, freaky, funny, nutty, unreal or enchanted quality attached.
Initially, I felt like an oddball. But now I am more than okay with it. I like that. I respect that.
Man is a mouth of contradictions. My paradox comes alive through this eclectic mix.
For different reasons, I see me in:
Shrek, Shrek: Because like him, I worship privacy. What I don’t want to tell, I don’t want to be known. And I build walls around me, which make me an impossible person to know. But truly, ‘it’s not I who has a problem with the world; it’s the world who has a problem with me’. Oh and did I mention, I love potty jokes! Gross is good. ;-)
Frodo Baggins, Lord of the Rings: Because, man, do we mope aloud? We are people of conscience and take up huge tasks and then we regret, ‘I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this would have ever happened’. And although we go about being brave, we need Samwise, Aragorn, Gandalf and others to fight the orcs of life.
Amèlie, Amèlie: Because I love magic. And it won’t fall like an apple in Newton’s lap. I think it’s up to us to create fairy tales. Find pleasure in seeing a ripe pumpkin or talking to people who haven’t talked in a long time or simply in the need of a pair of ears.
Jerry Maguire, Jerry Maguire: Because I have a phobia for commitment. And it's only when I let go of something or someone, I realize its/their worth. But hey, I get them back by saying hello. ;-)
Satine, Moulin Rouge: Because I love drama and tragedy. I love song and dance. I love things to seem larger than life, even if it’s all in my head. And I totally swear by grandeur in romance.
Munnabhai, Rangeela: Because I am a rogue. I speak tapori. I believe whatever I say is right. And if things don’t go my way, I’ll gracefully get out of the picture, but with head held high. Kya munna, sahi na?
Clementine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Because I am impulsive, indecisive, crazy and do things with my hair. Oh no, no colour. I just chop them off because I might have had a spat with someone. Also, I have always thought about erasing bad memories. And sometimes I do, in my own non-surgical way.
King Kong, King Kong: Because, Dude, my anger is really bad. I could do what Kong did to those Dinosaurs if I am provoked. And I am totally out of control and stubborn when I feel like it. Those cushions are seldom on the sofa. ;-)
Chihiro, Spirited Away: Because I am insanely lazy, petulant and dreamy. And I talk in that same whiney tone when I am asked to do Ramugiri (parent-controlled slavery). :-P
Louis, Interview with the Vampire: Because we have this huge philosophy on life, death, love, darkness, conscience, experience, food, EVERYTHING basically.
Peter Pan, Peter Pan: Because I’ll never grow up!

Loved your personal analysis. Makes me wonder what movie characters I most identify with...
And King Kong and cushion in the same sentence just do not sound right... :)
I wasn't trying to sound right, just stating some unbelievable facts. ;)
Great post! Its amazing that all of us can have such different types of emotions in us.
Will ponder on who all sum up to me :)
this is exactly what makes you special!
I'd say you are like apna DDLJ's Raj and of course Joel.
"Apan ko beech mein nahin aane ka hai. Kabaab mein haddi nahin banne ka hai apan ko, Milli."
*whistle*
Those last few minutes of Rangeela are my all-time-favourite last few minutes of any movie.
